What is Ultimate-Jitsu?
"Art with the goal of completion"
Ultimate, because a perfect martial art was to be strived for. And this through the best combination of martial arts techniques, all of which are combined and applied in one style. And every style evolves and so does Ultimate Jitsu. It is in constant change with the pursuit of perfection. The goal is not reached, but those who rest rust and do not get better.
Jitsu is a Japanese word and stands for art. There are many Jiu-Jitsu styles and these are literally translated as "The Gentle Technique" or "The Yielding Art". Now, Ultimate Jitsu is not completely gentle, because many techniques from kickboxing and MMA are used. This is the reason why "Jiu" does not appear in the name in this style.
The goal of Jiu-Jitsu is to incapacitate attackers as efficiently as possible. It doesn't matter whether the aggressor attacks with or without weapons. Defense not only uses movement theories to avoid attacks, but also to counter them with various techniques. There are different technology groups:
Locking Techniques
Controlling Techniques
Nerve pressure techn.
Striking Techniques
Impact techniques
Transportation Techn.
Kicking Techniques
Throwing Techniques
Strangulation Techniques
Who founded Ultimate-Jitsu?
Michel van Rijt
Michel van Rijt was born on 25 June 1970 in Helmond (Netherlands). At the age of 10, he began his journey into martial arts with judo. Until the age of 16, he trained judo every day of the week and was a member of the national judo team for many years. Then came Shotokan Karate, Jiu-Jitsu, Pancrace, MMA, Grappling, BJJ, Kickboxing, Pankration, Hand-2-Hand-Fighting and Pencak Silat. This is how Michel van Rijt became an all-round fighter and combined techniques from all these martial arts in one style. This matured over many years and so Michel not only fought his own style, but also had his very own way of teaching martial arts.
It is important to him that his students can defend themselves in different situations and that they can also recognize the different techniques from different martial arts. Likewise, that they never stop learning and are constantly evolving.
Over the years, an unmistakable new style of Jiu-Jitsu has emerged that is as versatile as it can be. In 2022, the style was recognized by the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation (JJIF) as its own style: Ultimate Jitsu. This means that all national member associations can also earn their ranks in this style. The National Federation of Mauritius was the first federation to work fully with the "Ultimate Jitsu" program.

What does the graduation system look like?
There are student and master degrees
The student ranks are called Kyu degrees, the master grades Dan degrees. In Ultimate-Jitsu, you start as a student with a white belt. For the next belt color, an exam must be taken. The exams are taken by the sensei (= master). Each graduation is not only an incentive for every trainee, but also shows everyone the approximate performance level of each athlete, or at least how long he has been practicing this martial art. The higher the graduation, the more extensive and demanding the examination program is. There are also special waiting times between the respective exams.
Ultimate Jitsu can only be started from the age of 10 - it is recommended to start with Judo and lay the foundations so that the very demanding style can be learned better.
